Oakland

Poor little Oakland had to have some minor surgery this past week. It was supposed to be a quick in and out but did not quite end up that way.

We got to Primary Children's around 9:30 a.m..... He didn't even end up going into surgery until after 12:00! That's a long time for a baby to go without food (especially my baby!!!) We thought the surgery was only supposed to be 30 minutes long, it was closer to 2 hours.

The surgery went really well but he had some kind of reaction to the anesthetics or the morphine. We could not get him to wake-up and stay awake. He would open his eyes for a minute or two and then go right back out. This went on for about 6 hours. His oxygen level was really low and he started to run a fever. They ended up doing a chest x-ray to see if he had aspirated his stomach fluids during the surgery or to see if the breathing tube had caused his lung to collapse. The x-rays came back good, so they decided it was still a reaction to the meds. He finally woke-up around 8:00 p.m., but he was definitely not his hyper-happy little self. We still could not get his oxygen up so they decided to keep him over night. During the night his oxygen came back up slowly so we were able to go home the next day. :)

He has been a pretty cranky baby the last couple of days, but tonight he is starting to act more like himself!

Here he is pre-op sporting a darling hospital gown :)
12:00 in the afternoon.... He hadn't eaten anything since midnight, he was not a happy camper.
If you hadn't noticed he LOVES his blanket. (Ivy calls it his foofie, she got it from Madagascar 2.) He sucks on the corner of it and uses it in place of a Binky :0 Silly kid.
Post-op: This is how we sat for a good 6 hours. He looked so pale. We are sure glad that everything turned out well!
Thank you all for your support and help (especially Todd and Sami who brought us dinner, helped with a blessing, and packed me an overnight bag for my unexpected stay at the hospital.) We have the best friends and family :)

What a scary event. I am so glad to hear that he is alright and able to go home. I wish they would just tell you that the surgery is going to last longer thatn they think....it would be less freaky to hear we're done and it took a half hour then waiting the addtional time!

I love the next post...looks like injuries have kept you busy and you've filled in with some fun. Good job taking pictures!

oh how scary, I almost started crying. Its NEVER fun to see your baby not feel well. He is such a cutie and has grown up since the last time I viewed your post :) We need to all go to the Zoo again soon - Taylor and Oakland could be buds!
